The Musubi Man

Katy McDonald (co-owner of Creative Days Art Studio and Toby Lillig's aunt) shared The Musubi Man with us today.  It's the Hawaiian version of the gingerbread boy story.  She also treated us to a couple songs on the ukulele.

Scenes from A.M. Wonderland

Sam L., Konrad and Sam M. are enjoying building with tools and gadgets.

Marley and Audrey are sequencing the story of the Gingerbread Kid.  Have they told you the story yet? If not have them tell you today!

Harper is experimenting with Speech Bubbles (Talk Bubbles) when writing like the author Mo Willems.

Scenes from Wonderland

Sam L. and Jameson are enjoying Candy Land.  (One of the new games in the classroom)

With the frigid temperatures we spent a few days having outside inside.  Marley is showing us how she can do jumping jacks on the trampoline.

Painting our Friendship Tree
We now have a Friendship Tree in our classroom.  We will be hanging our ideas of friendship as well as compliments and comments to our friends on the tree.  If you have something you would like to add or a comment your child has made at home, feel free to do so.  The more the merrier.

This week...

This week, the college students lead their last activities for the semester on science.
Miss Lizzie had several versions of Little Miss Muffet to look at and then the
kids made their own curds and whey

Miss Kristin helps with the ingredients for "glurch" (glue, starch and food color)

Miss Terri gets everyone excited about making ice cream in a plastic bag!

Karl gave us a wonderful showcase (inspired by his older sister's inquiry presentation
in the Elementary classroom) on robots.
Green glurch!

We also read numerous versions of the gingerbread man story, acted it out and decorated our own paper gingerbread babies.
Be sure to check out the bulletin board in Roxaboxen for some of their beautiful collage creations!  We "studied" Peter's Chair by Ezra Jack Keats and Say Hello by Rachel Isadora to find examples of the illustrator using collage for the pictures.

Friday Fun

Grandma Mary and her side kick Grandpa Bob (Jonny's grandparents) were mystery readers on Friday.
They also brought the most delicious snack for us to enjoy.  Thank you again!

Liam's new puppy (Jessie) gets more attention than she knows what to do with!

Our Five Senses

For the past two weeks of school, we have been talking about our five senses.  The children had the opportunity to use their sense of smell to distinguish certain smells including root beer and strawberries, their sense of touch to feel different textures with their feet, their sense of hearing to play sound bingo, their sense of sight to mix colors and make sun catchers and their sense of taste to try different flavored apples.

Are you ready to stick your feet in the cold cooked spaghetti?

What does a gorilla or a hyena sound like?
Michael and Lindsey are using markers and water to mix colors for thier sun catchers.

What can we do with wire?

We have been experimenting with wire and are working up to making mobiles with 'beautiful stuff'

THANK YOU!!!

We just wanted to say thank you to our families for making the book sale such a great success.  And thank you for the wish list books!  We have loved sharing them with the kids--there's just nothing like a good book!
